VOLUNTEERS DURING FOLK INSPIRATIONS

Martin Luther King Jr. used to say, “The most invariable and important question of life is: What do you do for others?” Volunteers – people who are committed to their work, whose skills and support are of great help, would probably find many answers to Luther King’s question.

Youth Volunteering Center is focused in its work on cultural volunteering. As volunteers we help in organizing such projects as “International Festival of Youth Creativity Folk Inspiration”, Tedx Piotrkowska Street Conference or Piotrkowska Street Run.

Volunteering is the opportunity to develop oneself, get to know oneself, one’s strengths and weaknesses. As a volunteer, you have to learn to work in different areas and with different people. We have to adapt to the needs, take responsibility for what we have decided to do and cope with the pressure of time. We can learn openness in interpersonal contacts, different kinds of manual skills, sense of responsibility and belief in our abilities.
Youth Press Center operates within Youth Volunteering Center, where young journalists improve their skills under the watchful eye of a mentor. They prepare reports (film, photo and written ones). In addition, during classes they can check themselves and improve their self-presentation in front of the camera.

At 15.30 we would like to invite everyone who is interested in being a volunteer to the festival stage, where we will talk about the project ” Cultural Volunteering-United by idea,” and then to the Volunteering Zone in the Folk City, where between 16.00-17.30 we will teach how to create dream catchers within the action ” Get tangled in the volunteering network “.

MEETINGS WITH PEOPLE WITH PASSION

Sometimes we think about our life and we want to change something in it. Who can motivate us better than another man? In the 7th International Festival of Youth Creativity “Folk Inspirations”, in the folk city in Manufaktura, meetings with interesting people are held. Meetings with an authentic Viking, a sculptor, a writer, and a photographer are already over. Their speeches made us reflect.

Have you ever wondered what family reunions can give us? Sometimes they can change our lives. As it was in the case of Janusz Berner, a well-known sculptor and writer who, after meeting his relatives, learned that his ancestors were the Vikings. After this incredible discovery, the artist began identifying himself with historical warriors. Janusz Berner, a 64-year-old author of the book “Vikings-a true story”, is a man with passion.

It is a beautiful phenomenon when our relatives can teach us their skills. Nicholas Yarets, watching his grandfather who used to make wicker baskets, got interested in carving in wood. Mr. Nicholas after many years of studying specialized in carving horse statues and religious sculptures. The artist’s daughter is fascinated by his works and is learning how to sculpt.

Barbara Zytka is a woman who has proved that creativity can do a lot. Ms. Zytka used to be a school director and now she became a writer, and also began to lead the choir. She dedicated her book “Fili and Lelek” to her grandson, because it was his curiosity of the world that prompted her to try her hand at writing.

After graduating from the Lodz Film School, Krzysztof Kalinowski discovered that photography was the best form of his artistic way of expressing himself. Since then, he has been taking photos of the people and the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. As the artist he claims that photography is a permanent artistic challenge for him.

Four conferences with outstanding characters have provided us with a lot of impressions, but above all, a lot of inspiration. If you have missed our meetings, do not worry. There are two more days and two more passionate people. We would like to invite you to take part in the meetings on Saturday and Sunday at 13:00 and 16:00 to the Animation Zone tent in the Folk City.

PARTICIPANTS OF THE FESTIVAL INVITE YOU TO THE FOLK CITY

Workshops, dances, concerts and amazing performance ” Midsummer’s Night Tale” and much more is waiting for lovers of Folk Inspirations in the Folk City-the city which is present until Sunday on the Manufaktura square in Lodz.

10 zones (Edu_Zone, Handicraft Zone, Many Cultures Zone, Fashion_Zone, Folk-Photo, Animation Zone, Folk Cinema, Dance_Place, Ethno-Folk Stage, Volunteering Zone) with various workshops, animations, dance and fun places, great folk scene will be full of festival participants from 10 countries and specially invited bands whose work is also inspired by folk music.

Workshops for students from Lodz schools, the Golden Boat Competition – vocal category, teaching “Dabka” -the national dance on Marufaktura square led by specialists in this field – a group from Palestine, Belarusian-Georgian-Russian evening filled with wonderful dances and vocal presentations of festival participants and folk group OFF OREADA concert are already over.

But there are still workshops waiting for us in the City Zones that are open for citizens (Friday and Saturday afternoons, Sunday all day), dances from different parts of the world, creating ice artistic installation – “Fern Flower” (Friday at 15:30) meetings with interesting people with passion (every day at 13:00 and 16:00), Golden Boat Competition – choreography (Saturday 15:00 – 19:00), fashion show “FOLK FASHION” (Saturday at 19:00 ), “Get tangled in a volunteering net ” – learning how create a dream catcher (Sunday 16:00).

In the evenings we also invite you to take part in folk cinema sessions (Friday and Saturday at 18:00) and to have fun together at the concerts on our Ethno-Folk stage:

On Friday: 18.00 to 20.00 participants of the festival from Poland will invite you to sing folk songs together, 20: 30-22.00 jazz folk pop group THE FROZEN HEART and folk group TRYGŁAW. At 22:30 Manufaktura will be filled with lasers, lights, singing and dancing as if from the Fern flower fable, the Polish-Belarusian-Ukrainian performance will be the most important part of Friday night.

on Saturday: at 19: 30- 21:00 ZABABDEH dance group from Palestine and Polish-Palestinian group BUKRA will fill the stage with Arabic rhythms, later we invite you to have fun together with Ukrainian participants of the festival accompanied by Ukrainian rhythms.

On Sunday: at 18: 30-20: 30 a great jubilee concert of POLTEX Song and Dance group, then the stage will be filled with the African rhythms with BalletNjiing MBANDE from Angola, at 21:00 at the end of the FESTIVAL, the Belarusian group “LALKI CORPORATION”.

A press conference is over!

Today, a press conference was held in Schiller Passage with representatives of Lodz media. Deputy Mayor of Lodz Krzysztof Piatkowski and director of the festival Adam Kocher talked about VII International Festival of Youth Creativity FOLK INSPIRATIONS that is going to start next week (20.06.2017).

The folk atmosphere was introduced by the participants of POLTEX Song and Dance Group, dressed in traditional folk costumes. A schedule of events was presented
as well as places in which they will be held. As every year we will be present in Piotrkowska Street or in Manufaktura, where throughout the festival The Folk City will be located. There will also be new places like EC1, where folk will be implemented.

Each festival day will be full of positive, energetic, folk impressions that will be provided by the participants of the festival.

Young people from 10 countries will entertain the audience in the streets and above all at the Manufaktura Market, where from 22nd June for 4 consecutive days in 10 zones you will be able to participate in many workshops, meetings with people, concerts, flashmobs, folk-ethnic dances, film screenings, fashion shows and others. The festival -as every year –will also be present in Piotrkowska Street. Young artists will invite residents to dance and perform street, theatre and musical presentations.

WAITING FOR FOLK!

There are 48 days left for the festival! We have groups from Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia registered for the festival, we are waiting for further submissions, there are talks going on with youth groups from the other 5 countries, groups from several regions of Poland also want to take part in the festival. Registration of volunteers, photographers, designers, young journalists and reporters is ongoing. The festival project team is working on the construction of the Festival City in Manufaktura. We are creating Ethno-Folk stage, we are inviting folk celebrities, filling the rest of our intercultural Folk City program, organizing events in Piotrkowska Street and other places in the city where we expect our audience. Soon we will publish a detailed plan of the festival events, feel invited from 20^th June!

THE MEETING OF LEADERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION “TOGETHER for Youth”

The meeting of leaders of the international cooperation “TOGETHER for Youth” is taking place at Julian Tuwim Youth Centre in Lodz , with the participation of partners from Belarus and Ukraine.

Leaders, choreographers and musicians are working on one of the festival projects. They are creating a Polish-Ukrainian-Belarusian choreographic and musical performance “At Midsummer’s night” which is going to take place on 23^rd June 2017 in the Folk City in Manufaktura.

CARNIVAL AMONG CULTURES

On 7^th February at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz a great international concert organized by our Youth Centre took place- Carnival among cultures.

It was another a very colorful dance and musical spectacle, which hosted more than 170 artists from Polish and Ukraine, once again proving that true art knows no boundaries. We thank our guests from Ukraine – Barvinok, Flamingo and Namysto groups from Kiev and the choir Dialogue as well as Krajki artistic group, Here and Now, Poltex from the Youth Centre in Lodz for a concert full of carnival rhythms, dance and positive energy which warmed our hearts in this cold, winter evening. We are also pleased that thanks to our money collection we managed to collect 965, 84 zl for our folk artists and friends from Ukraine, with whom we hope to meet again in June at the next VII MFTM Folk Inspirations.

GETTING CLOSER TO THE FESTIVAL

On 20th January organizers, partners and friends of our festival met in our youth centre. The stage was full of folk rhythms, songs and dance.

There was also the official premiere of the song and videoclip “UNITED BY FOLK” recorded during VI MFTM Folk Inspirations so that everyone had a chance to recall the events of the last festival. After the artistic part there was a long- awaited moment –the director of the Youth Centre and also director of the Festival Adam Kocher appeared on the stage and presented the vision of the programme of the next edition of VII MFTM Folk Inspirations. We can tell you that as always there will be a lot of activities, positive energy of young folk artists from different parts of the world. This energy will be present in cultural institutions and in a folk village created in Manufaktura.

This extremely festive evening was not only an opportunity for the memories but it was also a chance to thank all our partners, friends, organizers and volunteers. Without them it would have been impossible to implement and develop this international artistic project.

Thank you for being a part of our folk family! See you in June at the next festival!
